The
Southern Tree Agama (Acanthocercus
atricollis) is native to parts of Africa, ranging
from Ethiopia to Natal, Congo, Angola and Namibia. They
tend to stay in environments of open plains with scattered
trees, and they stay close to the trees. They are also
commonly found in urban areas, clinging onto the sides
of buildings.
The Southern Tree Agama is a large
species of lizard, growing to sizes
between 20 cm and 30 cm. They have small spines adorning
their bodies. This species have very large heads, and
the males have large teeth at the jaw apex. During the
mating season, male Southern Tree Agamas will partly
turn a bright and rich blue color. |
