The Chinese Water
Dragon is a very popular pet lizard.
Prior to their spread around the world as pets, they
were native to several countries in Southeast Asia.
Normally their color will be a bright green, but stress
and environmental conditions can vary it to a dark brown.
Chinese Water Dragons are diurnal
and arboreal,
spending the daytime hours looking for food, climbing
and basking in the trees. Male Chinese Water Dragons
will grow to an average of 3 feet, while the females
of this species reach about 2 feet.
You will usually find groups of these lizards
staying close to bodies of water like streams, creeks,
or rivers. They are excellent swimmers, and may spend
long amounts of time submerged in the water. They will
also usually stay in tree branches that hand over parts
of the water, and drop into the water as a defensive
measure for predators.
